Singer-Songwriter Joey Feek Has Passed Away Peacefully At Age 40

Country music singer-songwriter Joey Feek passed away at the age of 40 on March 4, 2016. She is survived by her husband Rory Feek, two step-daughters, Heidi and Hope, and her two-year-old daughter Indiana.

Joey Feek and her husband, Rory first rose to fame on CMT’s singing competition “Can You Duet?” in 2008. Since that time, the couple released seven albums. She was diagnosed with cervical cancer in June 2014 and had a full hysterectomy. In August 2015, doctors found that the cancer had spread to her colon. She decided to end treatment in October 2015 and began hospice care at home in early November. She and her husband blogged and shared touching and heartfelt moments of their lives together in her final months on Rory’s blog, such as the last time she danced with her husband.

Over the months, they have shared sometimes sad, sometimes uplifting thoughts with their fans and friends as Rory’s health declined. Despite the pain she was going through, Joey never let her diagnosis dim her spirit or her faith. She released “Softly and Tenderly,” a hymn for her baby daughter, Indiana, who has Down syndrome, just weeks after her illness returned.

Joey said she wanted to hang in there to live long enough to see her beloved daughter turn two in February, and she did that.

Just days before she passed on, Joey shared a last goodbye and a final kiss with her sweet daughter Indiana, telling her baby girl, “…you be a big girl for your papa…mama will be watching over you.” After sharing her goodbyes with her family, the singer-songwriter fell into a deep sleep, and passed away peacefully.

Rory wrote in a March 4th post, “My wife’s greatest dream has come true today. She is in heaven. The cancer is gone, the pain has ceased and all her tears are dry. Joey is in the arms of her beloved brother Justin and her pretty voice to sing for her Savior.”

Rest in Peace, Joey.
