A family in Jackson, WY, came to the rescue of a bear cub who had climbed a spindly tree on their property. The little cub had wandered in while searching for food and shelter before scrambling up the branches. Concerned, the family called Wyoming Game and Fish, who determined the cub was orphaned and would need to be rescued.

A wildlife biologist was called out to tranquilize the bear. As the cub grew groggy, the team sprang into action — racing under the tree with a tarp and successfully catching the cub as he fell.

The family wrote:

“With no mama, the odds of this cub surviving on his own with winter coming on, were slim, so getting him out of the tree was critical. Once tranquilized, the cub fell safely into the tarp. From there he was evaluated by a local vet and then transported to the Idaho Black Bear Rehabilitation Center where he will winter and hopefully become strong and healthy enough to be released back to the wild! Good luck ‘Wyatt’ the cub!”
