Hair-Raising Rescue Of Woman Trapped In Ellicott City Flash Flood Caught On Camera

David Dempster is one of several men who are being called heroes today after rescuing a woman from her car after she was swept away by a flash flood in Ellicott City in Maryland on July 30, 2016. Heavy rains caused a flood that tore through the city, damaging everything in its wake. Two civilians were killed as result of the storm.

David and his wife are business owners on the historic Main Street and witnessed the devastating flood waters as they rushed through the street and swept cars down the street. “I was standing at the entry of my shop at the top of the human chain holding the next man’s hand and filming with the other,” David says of the video footage and rescue below.

In the footage, bystanders on the side of street form a human chain to reach the trapped woman. The man at the very beginning of the video was washed away but “incredibly lucky” says David which indicates that he got away safely.

There are many hair-raising moments in the video as people shout for the woman to get out of her car. Thankfully, the Good Samaritans were able to grab ahold of her and pull her to safety!
