Brewery Offers Puppy Parental Leave For Employees Who Get A New Dog

A brewery with nearly 1,000 employees has announced it will provide a week of paid “paw-ternity leave” to staff who get a new dog.

“[W]e know only too well that having a new arrival – whether a mewling pup or unsettled rescue dog – can be stressful for human and hound both,” BrewDog wrote on its blog. “So we are becoming the first in our industry to give our staff a working week’s leave on us to help settle a new furry family member into their home.”

The Scottish-based company announced the news during their grand opening of a location near Columbus, Ohio and said it is the first company to offer the “paw-ternity” benefit in the United States and the first brewery in the United Kingdom to do so.

“This brand new pooch-based perk will be available to all BrewDog crewmembers across the globe, including those joining our ship Stateside as part of BrewDog Columbus,” the post says.

“We’re not aware of any other American company giving a week’s leave to their staff to help build the bond between them and their dog – but then few other companies have four-legged friends at their centre as we do.”

Their “paw-ternity leave” is definitely one dog lovers can get behind. I can just imagine the suggestion boxes at many businesses will be getting similar requests as news of this gets out!
