Boy Playing In Sand Dunes Finds Girl Buried In Sand And Saves Her Life

A young boy’s quick-thinking is credited with saving a 5-year-old girl’s life. Back in 2013, Connor Fitz-Gerald and a few other kids were playing in the sand at Marina Dunes. They were digging sand caves when he noticed something that terrified him. Five-year-old Alyssa Bostic got buried under the sand and had fallen unconscious.

Knowing that there were no adults close by, Connor sprung into action. He dug away the sand from her head and then dragged her out. He noticed she had sand in her mouth, nose and eyes but he immediately began to perform CPR and she woke up! Connor says he learned CPR from the TV show, NCIS.

Connor’s father, Tim Fitz-Gerald was proud of his son and his quick-thinking. “I am glad he was able to sit back and go, wait a minute something’s going on, there’s not a parent here, I know they’re at least a quarter mile away, I need to do something,” Tim said.

When the adults were reached they immediately called the paramedics. It turns out Connor’s CPR in those minutes in between were critical in saving Alyssa’s life!

Alyssa thankfully made a full recovery and Connor was later honored with the National Youth Hero Award from the American Legion Auxiliary.
