Abused Puppy Found With Chemical Burns Begins Heartwarming Recovery
A tiny 8-week-old puppy, horrifically abused by the people who had him, is now healing and safe in loving hands.
In late May, the pup—now named Lammy (after the beloved Lamb Chop dog toy)—was rescued by Aviary Creatures Rescue (ACR) in Lafayette, Louisiana. He was suffering from severe chemical burns on his face, ears, and mouth. According to rescuers, Lammy had been tortured repeatedly: thrown off a porch, slammed into a door, and burned.
Rescuers rushed him to Lafayette Veterinary Care Center (LVCC) for emergency treatment. Lammy’s skin was already beginning to slough off, but after receiving pain medication, he had just enough relief to eat a little.
He struggled to maintain his body temperature and was reluctant to move due to the pain. Vets wrapped him in blankets and placed him on a heating pad to keep him comfortable.
Over the next few weeks, Lammy underwent procedures to debride the necrotic skin so healing could begin. He was transferred into foster care with Trampled Rose Rescue, who teamed up with Aviary Creatures Rescue (ACR) to support his ongoing recovery.
Now, a month after his rescue, Lammy is amazing his caregivers with how well he’s healing. He’s thriving in his foster home with @dr.verygooddogs, where he spends time with his blind pittie foster brother, Newt.

ACR recently shared a photo showing just how far Lammy has come. “Lammy is proud to show y’all his moustache, unibrow, and BLONDE MUTTON CHOPS… He even has a bit coming in on his ears!” they wrote on Facebook. “We weren’t sure if he would regrow any hair after what he’s been through, but our boy continues to surprise us,” they added.
Still, some challenges remain. “The biggest concern remains those sad little eyelids,” ACR shared. “The trauma around his eyes was so bad that he hasn’t been able to fully close his lids, but we remain hopeful that, in time, those too will fully heal.”

Although Lammy’s face and body are healing well, his caregivers are closely monitoring the tissue around his eyes. While the eyes themselves are thankfully undamaged, they’re watching for potential complications from scarring or irregular skin as the chemical burns continue to heal.

Lammy has a long healing road ahead, but he’s surrounded by a medical team and foster family committed to giving him the best possible care and lots and lots of love.

“This wouldn’t be possible without the ridiculously caring doctors, nurses, and staff at Abadie Veterinary Hospital and Lafayette Veterinary Care Center (LVCC), and all the donors and supporters who shared his story and contributed to his care,” Aviary Creatures Rescue wrote.
