Woman Hears Baby Raccoon Crying for His Mom — What Rescuers Find Saves Six Tiny Lives
When a tiny raccoon poked his head out of a hollow tree crying for his mother, it caught the attention of Nicole, who noticed the baby animal in her front yard.
“Nicole’s heart broke when she heard the desperate sounds of the baby animal – it had been three days of constant crying, and she worried his mother wasn’t coming back. The little one wouldn’t survive on his own,” wrote Toronto Wildlife Centre.
Thankfully, Nicole reached out to Toronto Wildlife Centre (TWC) for help. When their rescue team arrived they discovered not just one, but six infant raccoons.
“The poor babies were thin, dehydrated, and weak, having gone days without food or care – a clear sign they were orphaned,” TWC continued. The rescue team gently lifted each of the babies out of the tree and ushered them to their medical facilities.
The raccoon cubs are receiving formula five times a day and getting the hydrating fluids they need. The plan is to release the cubs back into the wild once they are old enough.
Toronto Wildlife Centre are currently raising funds to help care for the influx of orphaned baby animals they expect to rescue this Spring and have a campaign to help 200 baby wild animals. Visit their website for details.
