Two Abused Dogs Left to Die Find Healing, Love and a Second Chance on New Legs

Debbie Pearl of The Unstoppable Ranch is a champion of the underdog. She has given two dogs—Elliot and Zoe—a second chance at life, welcoming them into her California home after they survived unthinkable cruelty on the violent streets of Cairo, Egypt.

Debbie first heard about Elliot, a sweet and friendly dog who had been violently abused—his four paws brutally removed before he was left to die on the streets.

She arranged for him to be brought to a specialized medical clinic, where he was fitted with four custom prosthetic paws. At first, Elliot couldn’t stay upright. He would stand up, only to fall over. It took six to eight months of perseverance before he finally took his first confident steps.

About a year later, Debbie received a message from a contact in Egypt about another dog in need. At first, she assumed it was a photo of Elliot —the black dog in the photo had suffered similar abuse. But this was Zoe. “I absolutely had to have her,” Debbie said, recalling the moment she saw Zoe’s photo. “She had a will to live in her eyes.”

Zoe was flown to the U.S. and brought to the same clinic that helped Elliot. Unlike Elliot, Zoe took to her prosthetic limbs right away.

Now, the two “twin” dogs are thriving in their forever home. Not only are they cherished members of Debbie’s family, but they’re also giving back as therapy dogs, helping others heal.

Debbie said of Elliot and Zoe:

“Both of them now are in their forever home. They are forever loved. They’re forever taken care of. They both are therapy dogs. They’re teaching kindness and compassion, inclusion and what it means to be unstoppable.”
