Screech Owl Found Swinging From Tree Rescued by Quick-Thinking Fisherman

A man spotted an owl caught in a fishing line and rushed to the bird’s rescue. He was fishing in the woods in New Jersey when he noticed the tangled bird.

“I was fishing in the woods when I heard the loud crying for help. It was a cute screech owl tangled in fishing line attached to a tree, so it was swinging like a pendulum pivoted to the branch,” the man explained in his YouTube video.

The poor bird began to panic when he approached, so he had to be very careful to avoid being bitten or scratched. Once he managed to hold the owl, he realized the line was badly wrapped around its wing. He needed to work quickly to free the bird before it went into shock or tried to fly away.

Thankfully, he manages to successfully free the young owl. He initially worried about the owl’s wing being broken, but the bird jumped out of his hands and flew off.

“It took a while to get him free of the line but I think in the end he was fine,” the man revealed. “He flew across the lake without any problems.”

This owl was fortunate enough to have been saved, but the Good Samaritan wanted to remind people out fishing to be mindful of their trash. “This just goes to show how important it is to leave no trash behind when fishing, or doing any other outdoors activity. Always carry a trash bag with you, or at least put the extra line/garbage in your pockets or socks. Feel responsible for line that’s tangled in the tree branches and try to clean them up as much as possible (I know it is not entirely possible sometimes.)”
