Roadrunner Returns Every Day To Dance And Bring Presents To His Rescuer
A wildlife rehabilitator in Texas is sharing the delightful antics of a roadrunner named Chappy — a bird she raised from a chick and is now in the process of releasing. Every morning, Chappy greets her with a happy dance, brings her little gifts and food, and even “tippy taps” gently on her head in affection.
Chappy came to Heather as an orphaned and injured chick, and he’s her first roadrunner in over 30 years of rehabilitation work. When she first released him, she found him perched on the hood of her car the next morning.
Heather shared on TikTok: “This little baby came to me orphaned and injured, and now we are in the soft-release stages at my farm. I rehabilitate migratory birds, raptors, and small mammals in Texas with Texas Parks and Wildlife.”
Since then, Chappy has become a regular (and very enthusiastic) presence in her daily routine. He brings her food, shiny objects — even a jingle bell once. “He brought his own music to the dance today,” she joked. He’s clearly proud of his offerings.
Heather says Chappy is free to come and go, but he loves visiting, wagging his tail and helping out with her morning rounds. “He likes to do love offerings and pitter-patter on my head,” she says.
And yes — Chappy has a social life, too. When a follower asked if he had a mate, Heather responded:
“Yes ma’am, he does. She visits daily. He’s a little young to join her full-time in the wild, but that is the goal.”
Chappy has become her coworker of sorts, helping her when she does her rounds to the other birds. But he’s not only around Heather and the other birds. When a viewer asked if Chappy has a lady friend Heather answered, “Yes ma’am, he does. She visits daily. He’s a little young to join her full-time in the wild, but that is the goal.”
