Rescued Dog And Cat With Traumatic Pasts Become Soulmates

Acorn was just a few days old when she was seized from her owners. The tiny kitten had been abused—burned, among other things—when Annie took her in. The veterinarian didn’t think she would survive. But under vet supervision, Annie bottle-fed Acorn, and the fragile kitten pulled through.

A year later, Annie spotted Leaf at the animal shelter. The dog was scheduled to be euthanized the very next day. She looked broken, shut down, and was “shaking like a leaf,” Annie said. The poor dog had been kept in a tiny puppy crate and had never even had a water bowl.

“It was a little stressful not knowing if they’d become friends,” Annie admitted. But two weeks later, the pair bonded. Acorn and Leaf both get excited to go on walks and explore the outdoors with their family.

Annie’s heart is full seeing these formerly abused animals not only bond with her—but with each other. “I truly believe they are soulmates… It just shows what love can do.”
