Watch This Once-Terrified Cane Corso Relax Into a Bath Knowing He’s Finally Safe

Onyx the Cane Corso was found trapped in an aqueduct afraid and hurt. The young dog was “emaciated, injured, terrified, and fighting with every ounce of strength he had left just to survive.” Even sadder, when he was brought to the shelter, his family didn’t want him back — even though they knew he was going to be put down. But months later, he’s made an amazing transformation.

After learning he was in the shelter, a group of rescuers sprang into action to save him, and he ended up being fostered by the Goodlin family, famous on social media for their videos of their life with a large pack of rescue dogs, including their foster pups.

When he arrived at their home after a stay in the vet hospital and a thousand-mile drive, he was extremely afraid.

“When he arrived here, he was utterly terrified of other dogs. If he even saw one from a distance, he would tremble and roll onto his back,” the Goodlin family wrote on TikTok. “We took everything extremely slow. Weeks of decompression. Extremely slow introductions to the pack, letting him choose the pace. And slowly, day by day, he started to believe he was finally safe.”

And now, a few months later? Watching him get a bath with nothing but trust and love in his eyes is sure to bring a tear or two to yours.

@thegoodhype Do you think Onyx enjoyed it? Onyx is a ~1-year-old Cane Corso looking for a forever home to finally call his own. Before we started fostering him, he was found trapped in an aqueduct, emaciated, injured, and terrified. Despite being abandoned and knowing his time at the shelter was running out, he has emerged as one of the sweetest, most loving dogs we’ve ever met. Onyx is a true unicorn for the breed. 🦄 He’s on the smaller side for a Cane Corso, incredibly gentle, and completely people-oriented. His favorite thing in the world is snuggling with his humans. Long walks aren’t his vibe, being a full-time couch potato absolutely is. He is very smart, highly treat-motivated, and has basic obedience training. Onyx is crate trained, potty trained, non-destructive, neutered, vaccinated, and gastropexied. He has shown zero prey drive and thrives in a calm environment. Onyx loves every human he’s ever met and bonds deeply with his people. While he does well with all of our dogs, slow and thoughtful introductions are important, as he’s fearful of unfamiliar dogs. He would do best as an only dog or with a calm, respectful canine companion. Onyx is gentle, affectionate, and endlessly loving. If you’re interested in adopting this angel boy, he will be the most loyal, cuddly, and devoted companion you could ask for. The Goodlins reveal that Onyx a “true unicorn” among his breed. They wrote: “The very first thing we learned about Onyx is that he is pure love. The kind of soul that melts into you like he’s been waiting his entire life for a heart to call home. Every time he curls into us, you can feel it, all the love he’s been holding inside, just hoping someone will actually love him back. Watching him transform has been nothing short of magic.”

After a few months with their family, the Goodlins now know that Onyx is ready for his forever home.

The 1-year-old dog — who they call “one of the sweetest, most loving dogs” they’ve ever met (which is saying something given the number of dogs they’ve fostered) — is “incredibly gentle, and completely people-oriented.” They add, “His favorite thing in the world is snuggling with his humans.”
