Rescue Dog Surprises Family By Playing With Toy Two Years After They Saved Her

A 10-year-old dog surprised her family by playing with a toy for the very first time two years after they rescued her.

Nova was adopted by Kelsey McNay and her family after her previous owner decided to sell her. Used for breeding for eight years, Nova was posted for sale on Facebook and that’s when the McNays stepped in.

When they brought her home, Nova was in poor health and showed no interest in toys or play. Over the next two years, she adjusted to life in a loving home, but remained quiet and reserved until now.

McNay shared the touching moment on her TikTok channel:

“When we brought her home two years ago, she was in failing health and was being retired from breeding. Someone posted her on Facebook for $500 after 8 years with her,” McNay wrote accompanying the text with a sad emoji. “She has never played or acted like she knew what a toy was…until today.”

In the video, Nova dashes around with the “zoomies,” happily playing with a blue bone while McNay’s children laugh and toss the toy for her. It’s the first time the family has ever seen Nova behave this way. McNay captioned the video, “I’m so happy seeing her happy.”

Viewers were equally enchanted by the moment. “You can tell she just ADORES those two little humans. She said these are my babies that they’ll never take away,” wrote one viewer.

McNay answered, “We always call our three kids Nova’s new ‘puppies.'”

“You helped her move past her trauma, and she’s learning her life all over again, and feels safe to be her. This is beautiful,” said another.

One person commented, “She is gonna be silly all the time now chasing after those sweet giggles from her kiddos.”

Another noted: “You know the kids laughing made her feel even better about finally truly playing!!!”

It’s a heartwarming moment the McNays and Nova will never forget.
