Randy Travis Stuns Audience When He Unexpectedly Sings ‘Amazing Grace’ After Massive Stroke

Randy Travis suffered a debilitating stroke in 2013 as result of a viral infection that left him on the edge of death. He flatlined and was put on life support. He battled through pneumonia and had two brain surgeries. The award-winning country singer was in such critical condition, that his wife, Mary Davis-Travis, says that doctors advised her to pull life support. But she spoke to Randy at his bedside and he squeezed her hand, she knew he wasn’t ready to go.

After months of rehabilitation, Randy managed to get his motor functions back and his voice, although he cannot speak in full sentences.

So when Randy was recently inducted into the 2016 Country Music Hall of Fame, the audience was taken completely by surprise when he stepped onstage to accept the honor and broke into a rendition of “Amazing Grace”.

Mary spoke to the audience briefly about her husband’s ordeal. “Randy stared death in the face, but death blinked,” Mary announced to the crowd. “Today, God’s proof of a miracle stands before you.”

It’s no wonder the audience was stunned by Randy’s unexpected song. Garth Brooks who was also honored at the event and stood behind the singer was equally amazed.

Here’s a short clip of that amazing moment from the much loved musician.
