Paddlers Admire Wild Horses—Then Race to Save a Drowning Baby Foal

While navigating the fast-moving Kananaskis River in Alberta, Canadian paddlers Ava Haddad and Anna Gleig were thrilled to spot a herd of wild horses along the riverbank. But their excitement quickly turned to concern when they heard cries and saw a foal caught in the current on the opposite side of the river.

Working together, the pair managed to safely guide the young horse to shore. Hoping it would reunite with its herd, they waited—but the horses didn’t return.

Not wanting to leave the baby alone, Ava and Anna made a decision. They gently strapped a life jacket around the foal and settled it into their raft where it promptly fell asleep.

The young women contacted the local First Nations, who arrived with a truck to help return the foal to its herd. It was an unexpected adventure—but one with a heartwarming ending.
