Oregon Zoo Elephants Have a Blast at Annual ‘Squishing of the Squash’
What does it look like when an elephant squishes a 1,000-pound pumpkin? Spectators at the Oregon Zoo got to find out during the annual Squishing of the Squash. At the event, elephants are treated to giant pumpkin snacks—a fall tradition the female elephants especially love.
This year, baby elephant Tula got in on the fun for the first time. She didn’t eat her pumpkin, but she had a blast kicking it around until her mom scooped it up and ate it.
The annual event, which began in 1999, isn’t just for the elephants. Rhinos, polar bears, orangutans, otters, and other zoo animals also get to enjoy the autumn treat.
