Boy With Disabilities Falls Behind Other Runners In Race, Unexpectedly Uplifted By Friends

Twelve-year-old Matt Woodrum has Spastic Cerebral Palsy, but he doesn’t let his condition get in his way. His attitude and his courage inspires everyone who meets him.

Matt and his twin brother almost died at birth. They were born three months early, only weighed 2 pounds and had brain hemorrhaging. Matt’s doctor said that he would probably spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair as a vegetable.

But Matt proved that doctor wrong.

Although Matt has a disability, he loves to challenge himself. Last year, he decided to participate in his school’s field day by running the 400-meter dash – the longest race of the event. And the hardest race too. As expected, Matt quickly fell to the back of the pack during the race.

When Matt started to struggle, his teacher went over and asked Matt if he was going to quit. Matt said, “No way!” And then something remarkable started to happen…Kids started to run over to Matt too.

Everyone wanted to show their support for Matt. The crowd behind Matt grew larger and larger, and the entire school cheered for Matt!

Matt’s positive attitude inspired his school mates and their families. Watch his video below, and make sure you have a tissue handy.
