Pennsylvania Man Stumbles Upon Neighbor’s Lost Family Diamond During Florida Vacation
It’s a lost-and-found story that sparkles with coincidence. While vacationing in Florida, a Pennsylvania man discovered a diamond lodged in the sole of his shoe. At first, he thought he’d picked it up in the Sunshine State but the jewel actually belonged much closer to home.
Several months ago, Cindy Ware of Chester County, Pennsylvania, was devastated when the diamond from her ring went missing. The ring was a treasured family heirloom from her late husband’s family. Despite searching everywhere for it it could not be found and she thought it was lost forever.
Hundreds of miles away in Florida, her neighbor Coleman made a surprising discovery. He was wearing his water shoes on vacation at the beach and by the pool when he noticed something stuck inside one of the drainage holes of his shoe. It was a gem.
He initially thought it was just a piece of glass or a fake gem, but a quick stop at a Fort Lauderdale jeweler revealed it was indeed a real diamond, an older cut with beautiful coloring.
Coleman posted a photo of the diamond on Facebook, joking about the unusual find. Within minutes, a friend recognized it as possibly belonging to Cindy. On Valentine’s Day, the mystery was confirmed, it was Cindy’s diamond.
“I still don’t believe it. It’s in my purse now, but I still don’t believe it,” she said after meeting Coleman to get the diamond back.
Cindy believes the stone likely fell out during one of her pool exercise classes. Coleman also visits that pool to play water volleyball and likely stepped on it. How it managed to stay embedded through his entire Florida trip is a small miracle.
“A diamond in a swimming pool to be found at all is impossible,” Cindy said. “Too many things to have happened just right for me to even know where it was or how it was saved on that shoe.”
“It’s incredible this diamond made it back to me at all,” Cindy said. “So many things had to happen just perfectly for it to be found.”
What started as a heartbreaking loss turned into a story of serendipity and community and a wonderful reminder that sometimes, lost treasures really do find their way home.
“To think this little gem traveled so far and ended up back in the right hands,” Coleman said, “it’s a moment we’ll never forget.”
