Man Reunited With Long-Lost Dog After Four Years Apart

When Leovigildo Ramirez’s beloved dog, Cipi, went missing four years ago, he never thought he would see her again. She ran away in the summer of 2022 while Ramirez, his wife, and Cipi were living at an extended-stay hotel near the airport in Philadelphia while he worked at the Philadelphia Shipyard.

One day, Cipi got spooked while they were unloading groceries and bolted into nearby woods. The couple searched desperately for days, posted on social media, and followed every lead — but the dog they had had since she was a puppy was nowhere to be found.

Eventually, they moved out of state. Still, Ramirez made sure to keep Cipi’s microchip information updated, just in case she was ever found. Last week, he got a call from ACCT Philly. Cipi had been brought in as a stray. Police found her running in the cold, not too far from the hotel where Ramirez had been living.

Staff scanned her microchip and were able to immediately track down Ramirez. Ramirez immediately jumped in his car to make a 16 hour drive from Wisconsin to Philadelphia. He arrived Sunday morning just as the city began to be hit by the city’s biggest winter storms. Both he and Cipi were delighted to see each other.

Despite the weather, the reunion was everything Ramirez had hoped for. The return trip took two days due to dangerous conditions, but the family made it home safely. Ramirez says one thing is certain: he’ll be keeping her close by his side.
