Lonely Orphaned Baby Goose Gets Adopted Into a New Family

An orphaned gosling has found a new family thanks to the quick actions of wildlife rescuers.

“A tiny gosling waddled through a parking lot, alone and terrified. He was desperately searching for his parents, but it was getting dark and there were cars everywhere,” Toronto Wildlife Centre (TWC) wrote about the circumstances in which the baby bird was found.

A kind man named Jasmeet spotted the gosling and sought help. TWC knew the little one would have a better chance of survival and reintegration into the wild if he could be adopted into a family of geese—and as fate would have it, that family appeared the very same day.

TWC explained, “Christina noticed six newly hatched goslings on a rooftop nest at her workplace. Although their parents could fly, the little ones were too young to follow them and were at serious risk of falling off the edge. These Canada geese needed to be moved to a body of water, but the hatchlings weren’t yet ready to take their first swim. So the Rescue Team brought the whole family in to keep them safe and together.”

In a stroke of luck, the orphaned gosling was just the right age to join this newly rescued family. But the question remained. Would he be accepted?

Happily, he was. The entire Canada goose family was later released together near the water, one big happy flock.
