Kelly Clarkson took to the American Idol stage one last time in the show’s final season (before it was revived) and her emotions got the better of her. Not only is she expecting baby number two, and she was feeling nostalgic being back on the Idol stage, but her new song ‘Piece by Piece’ is intensely personal to her. The emotional song compares Kelly’s own experience of having her father walk out on her to her husband’s devotion and love for their baby girl.
Kelly’s parents divorced when she was very young and it tore apart their family. Kelly stayed with her mom, but her brother went to live with her dad, and her sister stayed with an aunt. She and her two siblings reconnected before Idol and now are very close, although Kelly has no connection with her father, according to Hollywood Life.
“I’m pregnant and it’s nostalgic and I can’t believe it’s the last season,” the expecting Kelly told Idol host Ryan Seacrest after finishing her performance in tears. “Yeah, really sorry I just bawled.”
She wasn’t the only one left crying. Judge Keith Urban and most of the audience was in tears too.
