Injured Dog Sits Through Thunderstorm And Hot Sun, Hoping For Someone To Care
Mack, an injured dog, was right where the mail carrier said he’d be — lying in a grassy field by the side of the road.
“He sat through the morning thunderstorms and then lay in the direct sun until evening,” wrote Kristin Erwin, founder of the Streethearts Project in Texas, in the description of her video.
The mail carrier had noticed Mack suffering but, with no local animal control services, she turned to social media for help — hoping someone would care enough to come.
Kristin answered that call. When she arrived, Mack was soaking wet. He lifted his head to look at her, but didn’t try to get up. That’s when she saw the cuts and swelling on his back legs. Initially, she thought he was paralyzed because he made no effort to stand up. Unsure and alone, Kristin hoped someone might stop to help her pick him up. She gently laid a towel beside him, and he slowly sank his head onto it.

With no one else around, Kristin knew she had to act. She carefully helped Mack into a crate by herself. When he stood—even briefly—it felt like a tiny miracle. At least he was not paralyzed.
At the vet, they learned Mack had injuries to his right elbow and back left leg, but thankfully, no broken bones. Exhausted from the pain, the trauma, and the X-rays, Mack curled up on the weight scale and fell asleep.
Though he’s battling heartworm, it doesn’t seem Mack was hit by a car. More likely, he was attacked by other dogs. Yet somehow, through it all, he remains gentle. He’s happily taking his medicine, eating well, and leaning into the care he’s finally receiving.
“Our focus now is on getting his legs to heal,” Kristin said. “We can’t wait to see him feeling better.”
