Golden Retriever’s Unexpected Barking Leads to a Hilarious Discovery
Who says Golden Retrievers can’t be guard dogs? When Macho the Golden Retriever unexpectedly started barking in his family’s backyard, his mom knew something was up as it was totally unlike him. Instagrammer @macho_the_magnificent noted that Macho is normally quiet and not a barker, so she decided to ask him what was going on.

From the upper floor of her house, she called down to Macho to find out what he was trying to alert her to. Amazingly, he seemed to understand. He began walking in the direction he had been staring, until they were both looking out over the driveway. That’s when she finally saw what had him so concerned.
Watch the video below:
There, floating in the sky, was a hot air balloon! No wonder Macho was alarmed. After getting his mom’s attention and completing his “mission,” he proudly ran inside—clearly looking for confirmation that he was, in fact, a very good boy.

Viewers loved Macho’s sense of duty. “He’s so proud of himself,” one person commented. Another dog owner could relate: “Yep, my first dog was a Golden and freaked out when she saw a hot air balloon… it’s a Golden thing.”
It’s not only a Golden thing it’s a dog thing. The unusual shape and size of a floating air balloon catches many dogs off guard.
Doogie doesn’t like them too much.
And neither do these huskies.
Sami the American Staffordshire Terrier has a different reaction.
