Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder has done a a cover of John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’, a song he calls the “most powerful song ever written”. Vedder is donating the proceeds of his cover (available for purchase via iTunes) to benefit a non-profit organization that is using music to foster peace in the Middle East.
It’s an appropriate song to pick for peace given that Lennon was asking us to imagine a place where the things that divide people (religion, possessions, politics) did not exist. He felt that the world would be a much better place.
