Dog Escapes Home and Walks Miles Overnight — All for a Breakfast Burrito

A family discovered their dog had snuck of his home and walked five miles overnight through farmer’s fields on a mission – to get a breakfast burrito at the local convenience store.

Max, a four-year-old Great Pyrenees, had once been given the tasty treat by staff at the C Store in Langford, South Dakota, and it must have been on his mind ever since.

He escaped around midnight and then spent nearly two hours walking across open fields to reach the store. When he arrived early, Max simply waited outside until it opened.

Sara Maley Olson, Max’s mom, shared the story to The Great Pyrenees Enthusiasts group on Facebook:

“Thought you all would find this interesting. My daughter came home around 11:30 last night and accidentally let our GP [Great Pyr], Max, out of the garage without realizing it. He’s figured out that the workers at our small town convenience store will feed him breakfast burritos when he shows up in the morning. He will walk nearly 7 miles to town for a yummy breakfast burrito.”

“The C Store opens late on Sundays, so we think he got tired of waiting and he walked across town to her boyfriend’s house. BTW, he’s never been to the boyfriend’s house. He then walked back to the C Store. I woke up this morning to several notifications from his TWO GPS collars, informing me of his trip to town. I found him waiting patiently at the front door of the C Store for his breakfast burrito.”

Sara later shared a video of picking Max up outside the store. He was muddy and very smelly, prompting her to comment, “Smells like he slept in a feedlot last night.”

After getting cleaned up, Max was finally rewarded with his long-awaited burrito, which he eagerly devoured. According to SWNS, his family now feeds him homemade breakfast burritos each morning in hopes of discouraging any future breakfast adventures.
