Cyclist Rescues Exhausted Pregnant Horse Entangled On The Road
A pregnant mare’s life was in danger after her leg became entangled in a rope by the side of a busy road in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Fortunately, a passing cyclist noticed the struggling horse and decided to help.
The mare had collapsed, her rear leg tightly ensnared by the rope. Unable to free herself, she lay stranded on the shoulder of the road, her one leg up in the air. The Good Samaritan wasn’t sure how long she had been trapped, but later wrote, “The mare was pregnant, she was already shivering with cold and weakness.”
He immediately tried to free her leg but couldn’t manage to free her hoof of the rope.l Thankfully, a nearby worker came over to assist and was able to cut the rope off. But the rescue wasn’t over yet.

After freeing her leg, the exhausted mare didn’t have the strength to stand. The cyclist, determined not to give up, knew she needed to get on her feet as soon as possible. He tugged, pulled, and encouraged her until, after several tense minutes, she finally managed to stand.
He gently guided her over to a nearby field, safely away from the road. In a heartwarming update, he shared that six months later, she was seen again—this time with her healthy foal by her side.
