Couple Rescues Feral Goat No One Wanted and Builds Him a Cozy ‘Goatel’
Deano and Sarah own CrownFox Habitat, a 22-acre wildlife sanctuary and bee farm in Austin, Texas. Not long ago, they took in a feral goat named Frank and built him his very own “goatel.”

At first, the couple hadn’t planned on adding a goat to their busy household—they already had dogs, cats, and bees to care for. A few years earlier, a neighbor had asked if they’d seen a baby goat (Frank) wandering by the roadside. They hadn’t, but a couple of months later, during the winter, they spotted Frank living in an abandoned home.
Though clearly feral and skittish, Frank was hungry, so they began to feed him. (They later learned that other neighbors had been doing the same.) Over time, he grew friendlier and started visiting their house regularly, even wandering up and down the road. When he nearly got hit by a car one day, Deano knew he had to step in.
They called goat rescues and local farmers, but no one was willing to take him. Then Deano ran into the county sheriff, who mentioned that animal control had received complaints about the goat and might soon capture and euthanize him. That sealed it—Deano and Sarah decided to make Frank part of their family.
They cleared a spot near their fence line and built him a cozy little house. In true Frank fashion, he “supervised” the entire construction process and even took a tour of his new home once it was finished.
Now, Frank has officially joined the CrownFox family. But he’s been showing signs of loneliness, so Deano and Sarah are already thinking about finding him a friend.
From not wanting any goats to rescuing a feral one, building him a home, and planning for a companion—what a wonderful journey of compassion and care.
