This beautiful moment between brothers brought tears to my eyes. Mark McMullan sings an amazing rendition of “Bring Him Home” from the hit musical Les Miserables to his brother, Declan, at their local bar in Ireland.
Declan suffered a cardiac arrest a few years ago, which resulted in him developing Locked in Syndrome. It’s a condition in which a patient is fully aware but cannot move or communicate verbally due to complete paralysis of nearly all voluntary muscles in the body except for the eyes. That’s how Declan communicates with his family.
According to the video’s description, Declan’s family calls out the letters of the alphabet and he blinks at the letters to form a word.
The description adds that in spite of his condition, Declan has has an amazing sense of humor and has shown immense courage and strength throughout. He also has the love and support of his family. Just hearing Mark singing so beautifully for his brother is clear evidence of that. Mark’s love for Declan shines through his beautiful, heartfelt performance.
