Baby Foxes Discovered Wandering Inside Texas Courthouse
They weren’t the typical visitors you’d expect to see in a Texas courthouse — and they definitely didn’t belong there. San Antonio Animal Care Services (ACS) shared that they were called in to help catch a pair of wild animals spotted roaming the halls of the city’s downtown courthouse.
They posted on Facebook: “Earlier this month, ACS received a 3-1-1 report about two unexpected visitors—a pair of fox kits seen wandering inside a downtown courthouse!”
“Animal Care Lieutenant Snowden and Sergeant Lopez responded to the call and discovered the young foxes hiding behind a shelving unit in a hallway,” ACS continued. The baby foxes peeked out at the officers with a mixture of curiosity and fear. They were alone with their mother nowhere to be found.

But with care and patience the officers safely coaxed the two kits into a humane trap.

At only a couple of months old, the kits would need human care to survive so they were transported to Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation, where they’ll be cared for until they are ready to be release back into their natural habitat.

ACS noted that as San Antonio continues to grow, encounters with wildlife are increasing. They noted, “Foxes, raccoons, opossums, and other wild animals have learned to navigate our city spaces.”
They advised a few simple steps to help humans, pets, and the wild animals peacefully co-exist.
- Keep pets up-to-date on vaccinations (because foxes are considered a rabies vector species. Ed. note: Additionally, dogs can pass on diseases to foxes)
- Don’t leave food outdoors (pet food or trash)
- Secure pets indoors or in fenced yards
- Never approach or attempt to handle wildlife (call ACS at 3-1-1 or file a report online at saacs.info/311.)
