Abandoned Mama Dog Shows Up at Shelter, Asks for Help to Save Her Family

An abandoned mama dog came to the Dog Rescue Shelter in Serbia, desperate for food and help for her puppies. She was agitated, and when Milan, the founder of the rescue, approached, she quickly led him down the road. She walked briskly, guiding him along a dirt path, through a small passage in a fence, and into the neighbouring meadow. In the meadow was an abandoned yard where farmers only come in the summer. There, Milan discovered her hidden den in a pile of hay.

Another dog suddenly appeared—protective of the mama and her puppies. Milan assumed he was the father.

The mother dog was huddled under the hay, shielding her puppies from Milan. The father, on the other hand, was overjoyed to see him and he welcomed human touch and attention.

With patience, Milan began gaining the mother’s trust, leaving food and treats outside the den. He first secured the father, then returned to carefully coax the mama out. He then began removing hay which scared her off. Thankfully, Milan’s colleague managed to catch her on the road. Meanwhile, Milan was then able to safely load the puppies into a carrier and take the family to the shelter.

Once reunited, the father trembled with joy at seeing his family again. The mama, too, began to relax and trust her rescuers.

The Dog Rescue Shelter promises to do everything possible to find this sweet spaniel family loving forever homes. Now this once-abandoned family has a second chance—all thanks to a mama’s determination to feed her family.
