Dog Left at Las Vegas Airport Adopted by Police Officer Who Rescued Him
A dog abandoned at Harry Reid International Airport earlier this month has found the perfect home with one of the very officers who helped rescue him.
The pup, affectionately nicknamed Jet Blue, was left behind on February 2 when his 26-year-old owner tried to board a flight without the proper paperwork. When she was denied boarding, she allegedly tied the dog to a baggage sizer and walked away. She was arrested and charged with animal abandonment, and Jet Blue was placed in the care of Retriever Rescue of Las Vegas.

According to founder of the rescue Danielle Roth, the former owner had 10 days to claim him but never did. Meanwhile, Jet Blue’s heartbreaking story sparked international attention. The rescue received more than 10,000 emails and over 2,700 adoption applications from people hoping to give him a home.
But one name was already at the top of the list: Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Officer Skeeter Black, who had responded to the original call at the airport.
Officer Black and his family had actually been approved to adopt a Goldendoodle through the rescue months earlier and had been waiting since September 2025. When Jet Blue became available, Roth said it was clear he belonged with them, especially after seeing the instant connection between the dog and the officer.
The family officially welcomed Jet Blue home during a special adoption event. Black said his family is thrilled to finally bring him home and promised he will be deeply loved.
“Our entire city came together for this dog,” Roth told reporters. “We’re just proud.”
Jet Blue’s story also brought additional support to Retriever Rescue of Las Vegas. JetBlue Airways donated $6,000 to the rescue, and an anonymous donor stepped forward to match that amount.
LVMPD shared in the celebration and wrote, “The outpouring of support from our community throughout this situation has been overwhelming, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped ensure this pup received the care and compassion he deserved. Bon voyage, Jet Blue and welcome to a new life where you’ll be loved beyond words by Officer Black and his family.”
What began as a heartbreaking act of abandonment has now come full circle with Jet Blue getting the forever home he was always meant to have.
