Frantic Seal Fleeing Orcas Asks For Help From Boaters

A terrified seal being chased by a pod of orcas in Washington State got an unexpected lifeline thanks to nearby boaters.

Charvet Drucker, an amateur photographer, was out boating in Saratoga Passage near Seattle when she and her partner noticed a pod of orcas hunting a seal. She was about 300 yards away when she first spotted the whales circling, splashing, and pursuing a harbor seal. The frightened seal saw their boat and immediately made a beeline for them. The seal stared up at them – almost like he was asking for help – before jumping onto the back of the boat for safety.

At one point, in a truly hair-raising moment, the seal slipped off the back as the whales continued to circle nearby. Watch the dramatic footage below — and be sure to watch through to the end.

Here’s another video of the wildlife moment.

By law boaters are not permitted to interfere with orcas and Drucker admits to being on “Team orca” but on this particular day luck and fortune were with the little seal.
