Woman Saves Malnourished Dog Being Dragged by Leash, Ends Up Adopting Her

Back in the summer, Alyssa Clark witnessed a dog being dragged down the street by a man in Altamonte Springs, Florida, and immediately knew something was wrong. The dog was being lifted off the ground by a rope around her neck, clearly malnourished and too weak to walk.

Clark, an animal lover, decided to intervene. She approached the man and asked if she could help the dog, named “Bella” at the time, now called “Willow.” She offered the dog water and even offered to buy her for $400 cash. But the dog’s owner refused any help and continued dragging her down the street. Several neighbors also noticed the dog’s plight and joined Clark in trying to help. When they were unable to reason with the man, they called the police. The dog’s owner still refused to cooperate when police arrived, and a scuffle ensued. He was arrested, and Bella was taken to animal services.

Clark wanted to see Willow and help her while she was in the shelter, but because Willow was evidence in a court case, she could not. She continued to stay in touch with the shelter, and over a month later, she got the news she had been hoping for — she could adopt Willow and bring her home! Clark was thrilled and couldn’t wait to meet her. Clark shared a video of Willow’s Gotcha Day.

Willow is quickly adjusting to life in a loving home, enjoying spa days, pup cups, and plenty of attention. “She’s a big cuddle bug. There’s no anger in her,” Clark says of Willow. Willow still shows signs of her previous life, like hiding her food, but she will never again go hungry.

Willow’s previous owner is facing animal cruelty charges and battery against a police officer and remains in jail.

Thanks to Alyssa’s courage and compassion, Willow now has a safe, loving home—and a second chance at the life she deserves.
