Cardinal Rescued by Woman Offers the Sweetest Thank You
Angela Buck spotted something red in her driveway one morning and when she got closer, she realized it was a cardinal—sitting quietly on the asphalt, not flying away.
Concerned, Angela approached to shoo the bird away before letting her dogs outside, but the cardinal didn’t budge. That’s when she made a decision: “Do I pick him up and move him?” she wondered. To her surprise, not only did he let her pick him up—he hopped right onto her hand.
Angela named the bird Clifford, after Clifford the Big Red Dog. “He didn’t seem hurt,” she shared. “He was moving his head and repositioning himself on my hand. He was literally sitting there and wouldn’t fly away.”
Unsure of what to do next, Angela called a nearby bird rescue center. After describing Clifford’s calm behavior and lack of visible injury, the rescue volunteer suggested that he may have suffered a concussion, possibly from a collision with a car or window.
The advice? Place him in a dark, quiet box for a few hours to rest and recover—then try releasing him again.

Angela followed the guidance, giving Clifford a few peaceful hours to heal. When she brought him back outside to see how he was doing, he sat calmly on her hand once more. He didn’t fly away right away. In fact, he looked directly at her and then came a small, sweet chirp.
“It was like he was saying thank you,” Angela said. After that, Clifford finally gathered the strength to take off, flying into a nearby tree.
Angela shared the heartwarming moment with photos and videos, captioned: “Here are the series of events… Enjoy, I sure did.”
