When Maria learned from a neighbor that Belle, a tiny Chihuahua, was being beaten by her owner she stepped forward to help. Maria’s neighbor had told the owner that she should not be treating her dog that way and the woman then surrendered Belle. That’s how Maria ended up fostering the senior dog.
Bella was very scared but the moment she came into Maria’s home it was as if a huge weight had been lifted from her shoulders and the tiny dog was so relieved.
And when Maria bought Belle a bed, she believes it was the first time Belle had a place she could lay down and rest. “I have never seen an animal be so happy with something so simple,” said Maria.
Maria soon learned that Belle was 11 to 12 years old and had never been to a vet. She would need some treatments for her physical ailments but after a few weeks, it was as if Belle became a completely new dog!
Now Belle loves to be held and hugged and her happy, funny personality shines through. Maria says she is a little dog with a very big heart. Finally, after years of not being fully loved, Belle now has a wonderful family who love her with all their heart.
