87-Year-Old Finds Skating Easier Than Walking

Yvonne Dowlen has been ice skating for over 65 years, and for her it’s an integral part of her life and helps keeps her young. Born before the Great Depression, she says skates were hard to come by, but she got some and hasn’t put them away since then.

Even after a few health setbacks, Yvonne makes sure to skate 30 to 45 minutes a day. She says “skating is easier than walking” and the exercise and doing something she loves helps against the ravages of time. She even still competes. She was the oldest competitor at the US Adult Figure Skating Championships in Dallas, Texas and looks like she was enjoying herself so much!
