Stray Wolf Dog Timidly Huddles In Corner Until He Finds Sanctuary With A New Friend

When rescuers received a call about a stray “dog” wandering a suburb Los Angeles neighborhood they weren’t expecting to find him in such poor shape. He was emaciated, sick, losing fur from mange and, as his rescuers soon realized, he was a wolf-dog hybrid.

He was named Castiel, and because he was part wolf his rescuers needed to find him a sanctuary specializing in wolf-dog hybrids or he would likely be put down at the animal shelter. W.O.L.F. Sanctuary in Colorado agreed to take Castiel and saved his life.

While under veterinary care, his rescuers noticed that he was extremely timid and shy.

Maybe it was because of his time on the streets, or that he was only a year old and only had known neglect… But Castiel hadn’t been given the opportunity to trust people.

When he was healthier, Castiel was transported to W.O.L.F’s sanctuary.

Knowing that Castiel was lonely, the sanctuary looked to see which of their other rescues they could introduce him to.

W.O.L.F. introduced him to another new arrival, a sociable and easy-going female wolf dog named Tenali.

When they were first introduced, Castiel played coy. “So Tenali played in her water trough and entertained herself…she is beautiful and very social!” It didn’t take long for Tenali’s friendly nature to win over Castiel. The two hit it off right away and became fast friends.

Just look at that smile!

Now the two hang out together on the sanctuary with the other captive-born wolves and wolf dogs who have been rescued to survive. “They are very sweet with each other,” says Wolf Sanctuary on Facebook of the new friends.
