Depressed Dog Sneaks Out Of House And Tracks His Owner Down In Hospital

A Siberian Husky named Zander made an incredible journey to be by his human’s side. After John Dolan went to hospital for treatment of skin ulcers, Zander became very depressed.

Two weeks went by and the dog missed John so desperately he decided he could no longer stand being apart from him. The white husky snuck out of the family home in the middle of the night to go search for John.

Zander then made a remarkable two mile trek and ended up directly outside of the Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip, New York, where John was being treated.

John recounted his dog’s adventure, “My wife had told me the dog is moping around.” Zander was howling and curled up on John’s bed. It was obvious he was distressed. John’s wife, Priscilla, believes Zander is bonded so strongly to John because the dog will never forget that John rescued him from a shelter.

When Zander stole away from home, he had to navigate through homes and a nature reserve. Zander would have also had to traverse the Montauk Highway and a stream in order to safely reach the hospital.

Zander arrived outside of the hospital and was spotted by a nurse. She looked at Zander’s tags and called John’s cell phone, which John answered in his hospital bed.

John related the conversation to the news channel: “[The worker said] ‘You have a dog.’ I’m like, ‘Yeah.’ He’s like, ‘Well, you gotta come get him. I gotta go to work. I’m at the hospital. I gotta go to Good Sam.’ I’m like, ‘I can’t go and get him. I’m in the hospital myself!'”

It could have been Zander’s amazing canine sense of smell that lead him right to John’s side. But no matter how he got there, Zander was happy to be by John’s side once again!
