Cop Helps Runaway Donkey Get To Safety In His Squad Car

When Police Officer Kyle Canaan answered the call about a disturbance on a busy road in Norman, Oklahoma, he was faced with an unusual challenge. What do do with a lost donkey? Good Samaritan Robin Strader had saved the donkey pulling the wandering animal off the highway and away from traffic.

Strader told Officer Canaan that the donkey could stay at her place a few miles away, but her car wasn’t big enough. That’s when Canaan suggested he transport the donkey they nicknamed Squishy.

“Our officers encounter unexpected things every day while on-duty,” the City of Norman, OK Police Department wrote in the caption accompanying the photo on Facebook. “This morning, Officer Kyle Canaan responded to a call regarding a donkey on the loose … To ensure the safety of the animal, he helped transport the donkey to a nearby home for safe-keeping until its owner could be located. It’s not everyday that you see a donkey in the backseat of a police car!”

As fun as it must have been for passers-by to see, it wasn’t all fun and games for the driver. Canaan told KFOR that Squishy did his business (number 2) in the back seat of his squad car. “I must have got it right after breakfast, because there was a lot.” Oopsy. Now I know where he got the nickname “Squishy” from!

As for Squishy, he’s happily resting at Strader’s property and if no one claims him, Strader says the friendly donkey is welcome to stay permanently at her home.
