Teacher Carries Student With Cerebral Palsy On Her Back For Camping Trip

Teachers are known for going above and beyond, in and out of the classroom, but one Chicago teacher literally put one of her students on her back to make sure she could join classmates on a school trip.

Maggie Vazquez, a fourth-grader at Chicago Charter School Academy of Global Citizenship, had a chance to join her class on her school’s two-night camping trip, thanks to the school’s co-founder, Helma Wardenaar.

Wardenaar refused to let Vazquez stay behind, even it it meant carrying the 10-year-old on her back during three days of hikes. So they set out to make it happen!
