Strangers Come Together To Help A 75-Year-Old Man Fix His Roof

Richard Dubiel may be 75 years old, but he still likes to put care and attention into everything he does. When he noticed that the roof of his house was caving in and needed repairs, he took on the task himself. It didn’t occur to him to ask for help. For three months, Richard climbed up the ladder, crawled atop the roof and plugged away at the task all by himself.

Richard’s neighbor David Perez noticed Richard hard at work and didn’t think a man of his age should be up on the roof doing the work alone. He took a photo and posted it to Facebook to see if his friends knew any roofers who could help.

Within a short time, a group of volunteers had stepped forward to help and David told his neighbor they would be showing up on Saturday to help him finish his roof for free.

And finish it they did. Richard was astonished and amazed by the strangers and their kind gesture. Richard was happy to give his sore knees and back a rest and supervise the work. Within a few hours the job was complete. When there was one remaining shingle to be nailed down, the volunteers got Richard to attach it himself.

“It restores your faith in humanity,” Mr Dubiel told KTVU. “I’m just astounded. I couldn’t believe it when this fella knocked on my door and said he wanted to help for free. What a gesture.”
