Former Champion Racehorses Saved From Slaughterhouse By Special Animal Retirement Home

Thoroughbred race horses spend their lives entertaining people, but what happens to them after they can no longer earn income will break your heart. Sadly, many of the beautiful athletic horses, some of them great old champions, are often slaughtered for their meat.

Michael Blowen was fed up hearing about these amazing horses being carted off to die when they were too old to sire. He wanted to repatriate the champions and prove that the equine athletes not only still have value but also deserve a respectable retirement.

That’s how Old Friends Farm began. Watch the video below as Michael tells the story of how Old Friends Farm came into being. He also introduces some of the incredible retirees at the farm that people can come and visit.

I love that he’s found a way to give these old horses a place to live out their final years in peace and tranquility.

Share this wonderful place with the horse lovers you know.
