Red Robin Server Buys Officers Lunch After Cop’s Funeral

It was a solemn day. Officers from around the country attended the funeral of Columbus, Ohio SWAT Officer Steven Smith to pay their respects after he was shot in the line of duty, which is why one woman’s act of kindness was so appreciated by nine officers. After saying their ‘goodbyes’, the police officers decided to grab a bite to eat at the Red Robin in Polaris where Jessica Dunbar works. They ended up getting an unexpected surprise from the waitress that left them all in tears.

When Jessica asked the group how they were doing, one of the officers replied, “It’s always a rough day when you have to put a ‘brother’ in the the ground.”

After she heard that, Jessica knew she wanted to do something to make them feel better. She had heard the news about Officer Smith’s death; the 27-year veteran of the force was shot during a SWAT stand-off.

Jessica also knows a little bit about what cops and their families go through – her father happens to be a retired police officer. That’s why she decided to write them a note of appreciation and paid their $123 tab for lunch.
