Prince Harry Recognizes 97-Year-Old Fan And Gives Her A Big Hug

Prince Harry meets a lot of people every year at the various events that he attends as part of his royal itinerary and through charities he supports. But it seems he never forgets a face.

Recently, when Prince Harry was visiting Sydney, Australia as part of his promotions of the Invictus Games, a familiar face caught his eye. The prince was shaking hands of fans in the crowd when he noticed 97-year-old Daphne Dunne, who had been waiting outside in the pouring rain to meet him. The two had met two years earlier and she was hoping he would remember her. He immediately did.

Daphne first met the prince when he was working with the Australian Defense Force and stopped at the Sydney Opera House. He noticed Daphne at the time because she was wearing numerous military medals, including the Victoria Cross.

Daphne is a veteran of the Australian Women’s Army service and it turns out that the rare Victoria Cross was her first husband’s. He died at age 24 during World War II and was awarded the Victoria Cross posthumously. They had only been married for one year when he passed away.

Daphne was delighted that the prince recognized her. When they first met, he gave her a kiss on the cheek. For their reunion in the rain, he gave her a kiss on the other one.

Daphne told reporters, “He remembered me. And gave me another kiss on the other side.”

Watch the pair’s sweet reunion in the video below and share it with your friends.
