Porcupine Shows Leopard His Spiky Side While Fending Him Off

If you’ve ever wanted to see how a porcupine’s prickly quills defend them from a predator take a look at this amazing video.

In it, a porcupine fends off a hungry leopard by backing up into the wild cat with its spikes.

While visiting Kruger National Park in South Africa, Ard van de Wetering and his wife spotted the big cat hunting for food. The leopard is very persistent, constantly trying to find the porcupine’s weak spot. At one point he even tries to bit it – oops!

Eventually, the big cat lies down to rest, but keeps his eyes steadily on the quilled animal.

Apparently, after 30 minutes of trying, the leopard finally gave up, no doubt realizing it probably wasn’t worth the effort to try and catch the prickly porcupine.
