If you’ve ever wanted to see how a porcupine’s prickly quills defend them from a predator take a look at this amazing video.
In it, a porcupine fends off a hungry leopard by backing up into the cat with its spikes.
Ard van de Wetering was traveling through Kruger National Park in South Africa with his wife when he spotted a ravenous predator on the hunt for some food. The leopard is very persistent, constantly trying to find the porcupine’s weak spot. At one point he even tries to bit it – oops!
Eventually, the big cat lies down to rest, but keeps his eyes steadily on the quilled animal.
Apparently, after 30 minutes of trying, the leopard finally gave up, no doubt realizing it probably wasn’t worth the effort to try and catch the prickly porcupine.
