Police Save Newborn Baby Girl Buried Alive Near Riverbed

Police in Compton, California have just rescued a newborn girl buried alive after locals reported hearing cries near a riverbed. Two siblings out for a walk heard the infant crying and called police.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department released a statement on Saturday November 28, 2015, saying that they found the infant covered in asphalt and rubble on Friday evening next to a bike path next to a riverbed.

Here’s an excerpt of what they shared on their Facebook page:

“The baby was buried alive on Friday evening near a riverbed located between 136th Street and Slater Avenue, in the city of Compton.”

On Friday, November 27, 2015, around 4:00 PM, Compton Sheriff’s Station received a call for service stating people heard a baby crying in the riverbed, which travels north and south, between 136th Street and Slater Avenue, in the city of Compton.

“Deputies Perry and Collette responded to the call and canvassed the area. As they searched, deputies heard a baby’s muffled cry and located a newborn baby girl buried alive under pieces of asphalt and rubble inside a crevice located along the bike path.”

“Deputies removed the pieces of asphalt and debris and rescued the baby from the crevice. The baby was wrapped in a blanket and cold to the touch. They checked her vital signs and called for paramedics. The baby was medically triaged at the scene by the Compton Fire Department. Thereafter, she was transported to a local hospital where she is currently listed in stable condition and will remain at the hospital for observation.”

The baby is believed to have been born within the last two days. The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, Special Victims Bureau has begun the search for the baby’s mother. They are asking for the public’s help with any information regarding the abandoned newborn baby girl.

Authorities also took a moment to remind everyone about LA County’s Baby Safe Surrender Program:

“Sadly, babies are sometimes harmed or abandoned by parents who feel that they’re not ready or able to raise a child, or don’t know there are other options. Many of these mothers or fathers are afraid and don’t know where to turn for help.

There’s a better choice, surrender your baby. A parent stuck in this difficult situation can safely surrender their baby at any hospital or fire station in Los Angeles County, no questions asked. For more information please call 1-877-222-9723, or visit http://babysafela.org/”

Update:

One month after police rescued the baby, the child’s mother was located by detectives and arrested but the Sheriff’s department and charged with attempted murder and child abuse. Investigators indicated that the baby was doing well and was put up for adoption.

I’m so glad police found the baby in time! Share this incredible story with your friends.
