Fashion Photographer On A Mission To Show People With Genetic Differences Are Beautiful

Fashion photographer Rick Guidotti gained fame working with elite models like Cindy Crawford. His camera work made him a hot commodity in the fashion world, but he walked away to re-focus his lens on people with genetic differences.

It all began when Rick saw a young girl at the bus stop with albinism. He asked to take her picture, but she refused. He began to research albinism and the way people with genetic conditions were photographed and was shocked by what he found. The photos were overwhelmingly negative.

His research lead him to establish a non-profit called Positive Exposure, an organization that uses visual media to transform people’s perceptions of individuals with genetic or physical differences.

In his photographs, Guidotti wants to show that beauty doesn’t only exist on magazine covers. He says, “The only way we’re really going to understand inclusion and really love the idea of diversity is if we’re comfortable with it.”

In the video below you’ll learn more about Guidotti’s efforts and the impact he’s had on his models. And in a touching moment, he meets up again with the girl he met at the bus stop all those years ago.
