A mom’s heartfelt Facebook video has gone viral after it was revealed why her son kept asking for two packed lunches and how she responded. Since the start of the school year, Josette Duran’s son Dylan has been asking her for an extra lunch for him to take to school. When she asked him why, he said it was for a boy. “He only eats a fruit cup for lunch can you make him lunch too? I don’t think he has lunch money,” Dylan told her.
Josette learned that the mother of Dylan’s friend is a single mom who had recently lost her job. “This hits home to me because a few years ago, me and my son were homeless,” Josette said. “I was living in my car and I was washing him in bathrooms. And we didn’t have food.”
After she had packed two lunches for a while, she got a call from the school principal. When she went to the meeting, she was met by Dylan’s friend’s mom. She had learned about the extra lunches and wanted to meet Josette. “I know this isn’t much, but I just got a job, and I know you’ve been feeding my son,” she told Josette.
She wanted Josette to accept her money but Josette had a better idea. Instead, she decided to help raise more than $400 in order to pay off all the past due accounts for all the kids at Dylan’s school who need lunch. “So now, nobody in that school owes any money, and now everyone can eat,” she said.
