Fresh coconuts are a delicious treat for many people, but husking them, and breaking them open takes a bit of effort and skill. But Chief Kap Te’o-Tafiti shows just how easy it can be by husking a coconut with a sharp stick…and his teeth! Chief Kap Te’o-Tafiti is the Senior Ambassador with the Samoan Village of the Polynesian Cultural Centre in Hawaii. For the last 20 years, he’s entertained and educated millions of people with fire dancing, fire making, weaving, and coconut husking.
Watch as he enthusiastically demonstrates his husking technique – “No need a can opener”.
