People Honoring Brave Police Dog Killed During Raid On Suspected Terrorists In Paris

More than 100 armed officers stormed a flat in Saint-Denis, Paris Wednesday morning (Nov 18), believing the Paris massacres’ mastermind, Abdelhamid Abaaoud, was holed up inside with six other ISIS terrorists. Among the police was 7-year-old police dog named Diesel.

Diesel was sent in to the building to sniff out booby traps and assess the level of danger, but she was blown up when a woman ran out of the apartment and fired at officers before detonating her suicide vest. Five other police officers were injured in the operation that lasted several hours and concluded with 2 terrorists killed and 7 suspects arrested.

The official profile for Police Nationale confirmed that Diesel “was killed by terrorists in the current operation in Saint-Denis”.

One police handler at the scene said it was “a little like losing one of our colleagues”. Diesel received many service medals in her career and was an indispensable member of the force, police said. Tributes have begun pouring in from across the globe in honor of Diesel and her bravery. The hashtag #Jesuisunchien [translated to English as “I’m a dog”] has gone viral since Twitter users heard of the dog’s death. One person wrote: “RIP Diesel the police dog killed in Paris tackling terrorists. Unsung heroes of police works #Paris.”

RIP, Diesel.
